Kate Reynolds enjoys a multifaceted musical career as both a violinist and violist. She is passionate about youth accessibility to classical music, a direct reflection of her introduction to the violin at age nine through her public school's music program. Grateful for the music mentors in her life, her teachers cultivated an appreciation and love of music performance and education that now guides her work. Kate currently teaches for The Bridges Program in Baltimore, a non-profit after-school string program providing elementary students with access to instruments and instruction. She also serves as the External Opportunities Intern at the LAUNCHPad career services office at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where she supports students and alumni by curating professional opportunities. In addition, Kate is an active freelance musician in the Baltimore area.

Kate is equally passionate about chamber music and orchestral playing as an active performer on violin and viola. A twice-returning member of the Chautauqua Instrumental Program, this past summer included an orchestral collaboration with Wynton Marsalis and the musicians from Jazz at Lincoln Center in a performance of Marsalis’s Symphony titled All Rise. Other recent festivals include the Arianna Chamber Music Festival, Green Mountain Chamber Festival, Rocky Ridge Music Festival, and Interlochen Arts Academy. She currently the violist in Old Bay New Music ensemble, a group of fifteen classically trained musicians that performs creative and experimental new music in Baltimore.

This past year, Kate received honorable mention in the Vanderbilt University Concerto Competition, performing Paul Hindemith’s Viola Concerto Der Schwanendreher. She has also recently performed in masterclasses for Edgar Meyer and Marc Vanscheeuwijck. Additionally, she is a substitute violist for the Lexington Philharmonic and the Annapolis Symphony.

Kate is currently pursuing her Master of Music in viola performance, with a pedagogy emphasis, at the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University, studying with Victoria Chiang. Kate completed her Bachelor of Music degree in violin performance, with a minor in viola performance, at the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University under the instruction of Carolyn Huebl (violin) and Christina McGann (viola). Other important mentors in her life include Joo Kim, Deborah Bloom, Kathryn Plummer, and Patrick Jackson.

In her free time, Kate enjoys running, reading, and exploring local coffee shops. She is also active on Instagram (@katereynolds.music) sharing her musical journey as a young artist. Driven by her passion for making music accessible, she loves to inspire and connect with her community online.
